Virtue of Saving!

Papa and Mimi told me that they were brought up with a humble family environment which has taught them the virtue of savings and appreciate the value of money. One may not have any savings though one has a high income. Everyone can learn to save for the rainy day.

With the help of Ah Zuo, Ah Gong and Ah Ma, Papa supported himself through polytechnic and university studies by giving tuition and a scholarship. He could even remembered that he brought his own water in a bottle to class and cycled to the train station daily during his undergraduate days to reduce his expenditure.

Papa lamented to Mimi how to “impart” the virtue of savings to me. My generation of kids generally have a better standard of material comfort where parents, including my Papa and Mimi who are willing to spend on my needs.

Small little steps; Mimi bought me a small blue piggy bank when I was about 1.5years old. Papa and Mimi will pass me coins every other day and tell me;

“Qi, can you save the coins / money in the piggy bank? It is very important to save up for the rainy day. You can also use some of the money to buy your favourite books and toys!”

Papa will also ensure that he explains to me the reasons for reprimanding especially when he used the cane on me (phew… not often though). Papa and Mimi try to set good examples to be my role model. Papa told Mimi frankly that he does not know if I really understand it (e.g. responsibility, trust, sharing) now. He hopes that over time as I grow older, I will understand and appreciate it. Things may change later when I grow up and be exposed to new things and thoughts. Papa believes that at least Mimi and he played their part to impart the right virtues and values at an early stage which is most likely to form the fundamentals blocks of my character building. No one is perfect but we should learn to be better.

Counting my coins...

Here you go...yeah yeah!

Give my piggy bank a big kiss!

Qi Loves Singing!

Qi’s first solo mini concert! Hehe..

In recent weeks, Papa found that one of my favorites activities is singing. I will sing before I go to sleep, sing in the car (I will request or rather insist that my toddler songs be played while we are in the car) etc. I can sing about 10 songs now!

I could also sing Chinese songs though it is “in bits and pieces”. Hehe… I will learn to sing a full song soon. :P

Enjoy my singing… :)

"Raining" Zoo Adventure!

We were at the Singapore Zoo last Saturday! We went Janelle and family early in the morning at Jalan Kayu for nice prata before heading to the zoo together. A… but as we started driving, drizzle came along. We thought that the rain would go away. Sob sob.. it did not and it got heavier about noon time. The animal show was also cancelled!

Nevertheless, we had a great time. Papa could see that I definitely appreciate the recent zoo trip compared to my first visit last year. I could identify most of the animals and was very excited when I saw them. I was so elated especially when I saw the kangaroo. Mimi told me about the zoo trip a week ago. I actually requested that I get to see the penguin! Hehe… Of course! I got to see my penguins!

Toys Fun Again!

I always get very excited when I am at the toy department! I was at OG Albert Complex.

Look at the mess that I have created! Don’t worry, I will always “clean up”. :P

Hmm.. where is the ATM machine?

Going around with “Choo Choo Thomas The Train”!

Let’s me use the phone to call Xuan Jie!

Halo! Can I speak to Xuan Jie? I am Qiqi girl!

HK’s Style Toast Bread!

Yummy… my first try! We did not manage to try the HK’s style toast bread when we were in Hong Kong.

I am ready! Yeah!

We also tried the HK’s style glutinous rice, chicken chop, baked rice and “yuan yang” (a mixture of coffee and tea, with a stronger tea flavour) at the Hong Kong café. Papa and Mimi felt that it is not as authentic as the ones they have tried in HK (maybe it has been “tweak” to suit local taste bud).

Still waiting! Can I start now?

Snack time! I am a “fishball girl’ like Mimi. Both of us love to eat fishball!

Wow… Mimi..look! That’s cartoon screening on the TV!

Nice fishball! Yummy…

Praying.

Papa brought Mimi and I to the temple that Ah Zuo brought him since he was a kid. Papa is “officially” a member of the temple now after his membership was approved by the management committee. Papa told Mimi that praying at the temple for blessings brings him good old memories.

Instinctively, I was on my knees and prayed to the gods for blessings. :)

Child Rides!

One of my favourite activities at shopping malls is to check out the “cars” (i.e. child rides) that are placed within the mall. I used to have a phobia for the “moving rides”. However, I have conquered it and enjoy the rides. A… but my rides are limited because my Accountant Papa finds that $1/ride is too expensive. On a few rare occasions, I could have numerous rides when Papa found 20cents/ride in the shops of old housing estates. Haha…

Happy Qi!

How are you, Mr. Taxi driver?

Naughty Qi!

I am a Tall Girl!

I have outgrown my dress! Hehe…

Mimi! See! The skirt is too short!

Qi @ Climbing!

I am a brave girl, climbing up the mini castle at the playground! Opps.. please note; kids should not mimic my stunts. It was done with professional training. :P

Mimi started to speak to me in Mandarin “full time” recent weeks while Papa speaks to me in English. I could speak more Mandarin words. Papa and Mimi hope that I can have a good handle with both languages. :)

Happy Birthday Mimi!

Today is my Mimi’s birthday! We decided to go back to Aquamarine at Marina Mandarin Hotel for international buffet! Marina Mandarin brings back sweet memories for Mimi and Papa because they held their Wedding banquet in the hotel.

Happy Birthday Mimi! Wishing you good health and happiness! Stay cheery… :)

Getting ready for good food!

Papa’s little girl, Ah Qi!

Papa indulged in fresh oysters & sashimi!

Nice selection of yummy pastries!

Not forgetting my favourite ice-cream! The buffet serves nice strawberry sherbet! Awesome! I kept pestering Papa for it. I ate almost three cones of ice-cream. Oppss…
Wow..nice ambience at the lounge corner outside Aquamarine!
Birthday girl Mimi & Qi!
Our happy family!
I was so “small” last year. I am a BIG girl now! :P
(See last year’s post; http://hongenqi.blogspot.com/2009_03_01_archive.html)
A short video clip "singing and blowing" the cake!

video

The birthday cake was specially designed by Papa & Mimi! Or rather, it was supposed to be done by Papa. However, Mimi decided to do it instead because my "zero artistic flair" Papa struggled to even design the border. Haha.. They went to a new pastry shop at Compass Point that allows you to "DIY", design your own cake.
